| Nage Birka - February 2010/March |
| |
Late in 2009 a sum of £200 was given to Little Stars by Lynne Weyman who has sponsored this family in Nage Birka for the last year. The money was given so that their little home could be upgraded from a packed mud floor to cement floors with the possible addition of a toilet. £200 goes a very long way in Egypt and it was possible not only to put the cement floors in place and add the toilet but also to check and repair to roof, make the electricity supply safer and then to redecorate the home.
The photos below were taken before, during and after the renovation. |

The first photo was taken the day we first saw the family and the other three photos were taken after work began. The pile of sand shown inside their living room disrupted their lives for several weeks but was used for the floors and then the yard was cleared ready for the installation of the toilet. |

The living room is no longer dark and damp with mud floors but has solid floors and is brightly painted and welcoming. The new toilet will not only improve health but is a great source of pride. The electricity system which was just looped two-strand light wire has been replaced and enclosed and proper switches added.

The effects of these repairs on the well being of this family cannot be overestimated and show how funds which are properly directed can make a real difference to people’s lives. Thanks are offered to Lynne for her generosity both by the family and by Little Stars.
